Why Haldex pumps fail at 40,000 miles
On Gen 5 Haldex units (used by VW, Audi, Volvo, Land Rover), the removable filter was replaced by a simple mesh screen. Manufacturers often claim the oil is "filled for life" and omit cleaning this screen during routine servicing.
Result: clutch debris accumulates into a thick sludge, clogging the screen and burning out the pump motor (Fault Code C111204).
