Stellantis and AdBlue: Timeline of an Industrial Scandal

The Stellantis group (Peugeot, Citroën, DS, Opel) is facing one of the biggest reliability crises in its history with its BlueHDi engines. Consumer rights groups across Europe are taking action. But how did we get here?

The Breather Cap Defect

It all starts with a defective design of the AdBlue tank's air vent. The original cap does not allow air to pass correctly when urea crystallizes. The tank goes into a vacuum and collapses on itself, destroying the integrated electronic gauge board and pump.

The Delayed Reaction

Rather than organizing a general (and costly) recall, the group has long opted for 'case-by-case' management, replacing the cap only during services for some customers, and leaving others to face total failure. This unfair treatment fully justifies collective action.
