Hidden Defects vs. Manufacturer Warranty: What your dealer isn't telling you

"Your vehicle is out of warranty, you must pay for the repair." This is the standard line given by 90% of dealers when an AdBlue or Haldex unit fails. Legally, this is often incorrect.

Understanding the Fundamental Difference

Commercial warranties typically last 3 years. However, laws regarding Hidden Defects (Manufacturing Defects) protect you for much longer. If a component fails due to a design flaw that existed at the time of manufacture, the producer is liable even if the warranty has expired.

An AdBlue pump that destroys itself because its tank collapsed is not a wear-and-tear part. It is a pre-existing defect. Under EU and UK consumer law, manufacturers MUST cover costs based on the expected lifespan of the part, not just their commercial goodwill.
