Faced with a premature failure, the favorite argument of customer service is the 'normal wear and tear' of the vehicle. This is a fallacious argument, particularly when it comes to the AdBlue system.
Differentiating Wear from Defect
Brake pads, tires, or a clutch wear out through friction: this is normal. A plastic tank (the AdBlue tank) undergoes no mechanical friction. Its deformation, due to a venting defect that creates a vacuum effect, is a structural failure.
Consumer protection laws apply perfectly here: the defect existed (in a latent state, in the very design of the cap) before your purchase. Do not be intimidated by the mileage excuse.
