Code P20EE vs P20E8: Understanding the difference to defend your case

If you are facing an AdBlue failure, the mechanic will give you a fault code. The two most common (and dreaded) are P20EE and P20E8. Understanding the nuance is crucial for your legal claim.

P20EE: Catalytic Efficiency

Code P20EE means 'SCR NOx Catalyst Efficiency Below Threshold'. Practically, the system is no longer cleaning the exhaust sufficiently. This often stems from an injector blocked by urea crystals, or a faulty NOx sensor. It is the plague of Renault/Dacia and some VW engines.

P20E8: Pressure Fault

Code P20E8 means 'Reductant Pressure Too Low'. This is THE characteristic code of a burned-out AdBlue pump, often linked to tank deformation (the famous vacuum effect in Stellantis Peugeot/Citroën vehicles).
